(25399) Vonnegut is an asteroid of the main middle belt discovered on November 11, 1999 by the American amateur astronomer Charles W. Juels at the observatory in Fountain Hills , Arizona ( IAU code 678).
The orbit of the asteroid around the sun is strongly inclined at more than 22 ° to the ecliptic of the solar system . The rotation period of (25399) Vonnegut was established in 2009 and 2019 by Brian D. Warner and in 2015 by Adam Waszczak, Chan-Kao Chang, Eran Ofek et al. examined. However, the light curves were not sufficient for a determination. The mean diameter of the asteroid was roughly calculated to be 6.761 (± 0.394) kilometers, the albedo also roughly 0.267 (± 0.067).
(25399) Vonnegut was named on July 24, 2002 after the American writer Kurt Vonnegut (1922-2007). The asteroid was discovered on Vonnegut's 77th birthday. An impact crater on the northern hemisphere of the planet Mercury has also been named after Vonnegut since 2017 : Mercury crater Vonnegut .
