(2812) Scaltriti ( 1981 FN ; 1974 DQ ; 1976 YK 1 ) is an approximately six kilometers large asteroid of the main inner belt that was discovered on March 30, 1981 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Lowell Observatory , Anderson Mesa Station ( Anderson Mesa ) near Flagstaff , Arizona ( IAU code 688). It belongs to the Koronis family , a group of asteroids named after (158) Koronis .
designation
(2812) Scaltriti was named after the astronomer Franco Scaltriti who worked at the Osservatorio Astronomico di Torino (IAU code 022). With his colleague Vincenzo Zappalà , after whom the asteroid (2813) Zappalà was named, he carried out an extensive program to study the rotation of asteroids.
