(90698) Kościuszko is an asteroid of the main inner belt . It was discovered on March 1, 1984 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station ( IAU code 688) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County , Arizona .
Mean distance from the Sun ( major semi-axis ), eccentricity and inclination of the orbit plane of the asteroid roughly correspond to the Phocaea family, a group of asteroids named after (25) Phocaea . The solar orbit of (90698) Kościuszko is strongly inclined at more than 24 ° to the ecliptic of the solar system , which is characteristic of Phocaea asteroids.
The solar orbit of (90698) Kościuszko is strongly elliptical with an eccentricity of 0.2531 . The mean diameter was calculated to be around 3.5 kilometers with an albedo of 0.297 (± 0.032).
The light curve of the asteroid was examined during observations made by Adrián Galád , Leonard Kornoš and Jozef Világi on February 1st to 3rd, 2006 at the 60 cm reflecting telescope of the Modra observatory ( IAU code 118) of the Comenius University Bratislava in Modra . It could be determined that (90698) Kościuszko turns around in about 5 hours.
(90698) Kościuszko was named on June 2, 2015 after Tadeusz Kościuszko (1746-1817). Kościuszko was a Polish nobleman , national hero , general and leader of the Kościuszko uprising against the partition powers Russia and Prussia in 1794. From 1777 to 1783 he fought alongside George Washington in the American War of Independence .
