3 chords for a hallelujah is a documentary by Trini Trimpop about the history of the musical group Die Toten Hosen from 1982 to 1988.

The film first appeared as a VHS video in November 1989 , shortly after the release of the album A Little Bit of Horror Show , which first made the band known to a wider audience. 3 chords for a hallelujah was only premiered in theaters on July 18, 1991. The music film was awarded a gold record until 2004 for more than 25,000 copies sold nationwide .

In 2006, director Stefan Kloos supplemented the 89-minute review with current comments from Uwe Faust and Campino . Then 3 chords for a hallelujah was reissued on DVD and reached number 46 in the German charts.

In 3 chords for a hallelujah , the musical development of the band Die Toten Hosen is documented in an entertaining way and by means of numerous amateur recordings from the band's private collection. The material includes e.g. B. Film clips from a living room concert on Timmendorfer Strand , a gig in Lithuania or the band's crossing to Helgoland , accompanied by 350 fans and escorted by a police boat. Also shown are scenes from the subsequent football game on the island, spontaneously organized by the band, which was held to replace the concert that was canceled due to the ban on appearing. This happened under the care of a hundred police forces with dogs.

Furthermore, 3 chords for a hallelujah contains scenes from the benefit concert for the steel workers of the iron and steel works in Rheinhausen in February 1988 on the occasion of the threatened closure of the company. It contains a recording of the joint appearance of Herbert Grönemeyer , the Rodgau Monotones and the Toten Hosen at the demonstration against the planned nuclear reprocessing plant in Wackersdorf on July 27, 1986. They play a cover version of the song On May 30th, the end of the world is set in 1954 , sung by the Golgowsky Quartet , was number one on the German charts.
