In addition to Tukur, the film also shares the theme of the crisis of meaning of a person over 40, a holiday resort as a setting, the summer vacation season and the erotic libertine with the comedy drama A Fleehendes Pferd (2007).

Sabine Derflinger said about her film: "Actually, my films are always about the same thing, about the longing for love, about the difficulty of finding a balance between security and freedom."

action

Christine, the successful editor-in-chief of a talk show , her husband Georg, a hospital doctor , and their 14-year-old daughter Sonja are on vacation in their home on Ischia , an Italian island in the Gulf of Naples . Christine recently broke up with her long-time lover Martin. Georg and Christine have been friends with Martin and his wife Linda for years. Georg also has a lover.

Christine's 42nd birthday falls during the holiday season, her husband and daughter have come up with some surprises, including Martin and Linda appearing out of nowhere to personally congratulate. Christine then flees and spends the night with the young student Tamaz, who had made himself comfortable in her bed when she entered her bedroom in her holiday home. On her return, Linda tells her that she has known for a long time that Christine has had a relationship with her husband for almost five years, and that she is even grateful, because as long as that is so, he will not leave her.

When Christine ordered Tamaz again at the hotel where she had spent the night with him, he did not appear, much to her disappointment. When Georg later wants to sleep with her, she eludes him. In a conversation with his daughter, he confesses that he is afraid because he believes her mother wants to leave him.

When Tamaz shows up at Christine's vacation home, he makes her sleep with him there. At the same time Georg and Martin are talking on the terrace of a hotel. There is a suspicion that Christine could have cancer. However, the all-clear was given later. After a while Christine and Tamaz join them. Christine introduces him as her new lover. Back in the holiday home there is a bitter argument between the couple, Georg lets himself be carried away to hit Christine. She escapes to the beach, where Tamaz and other young people have a party. Around the same time, Sonja slept with her Italian friend Marco for the first time.

In the end Christine makes a decision, she sends Tamaz a letter through Linda, who has separated from Martin, in which she passes it on, so to speak, to Linda, with whom he is supposed to make love, seeks her husband's friend for a few things to clarify and accepts Georg's apology. It looks as if she and Georg want to continue living together, but this time they want to be honest with each other.

criticism

In the picture , Oliver Kube rated the film as “a consistently relaxed, light summer dramedy with top actors”. According to Ulrich Kriest from film-dienst, 42plus is only good for television, but not for cinema. He found the script like theses, the dialogues “theatrical-papieren” and the story “so clichéd that it hurts”. Only Claudia Michelsen's game is worth watching. epd film critic Kai Mihm gave the film credit for trying to tell of a relationship without humorism and without "the shallow heartache clichés of German TV films". The initially pleasantly surprising realism quickly turns into pure boredom. The actors played well, but had to speak paper-like dialogues. Claus Philipp from the Austrian Standard asked himself whether a “more coherent story had been cured to death” in order to “minimize risk in the interests of the financiers”. A couple of actors simulated feelings that the dialogues were outrageous, that one would have to wait longer for a profound discussion with the local bourgeoisie.

The cinema world was of the opinion that it was only thanks to Derflinger's "impressive cast" that this "partly melodramatic story" did not "quickly become banal, embarrassing or boring". But “Claudia Michelsen as Christine, Ulrich Tukur as her husband and Tobias Moretti as lover and friend of the house” made the drama “an intensive study of relationships”. All in all, it was found "rather worth seeing for the more mature viewers".

Also prism was done by a "great cast" in a "well-played [n] relationship pentagon". In addition to the “pointed dialogues”, “Claudia Michelsen is a direct hit in Sabine Derflinger's marriage drama”. She succeeds in “drawing the credible portrait of a mature, sensual woman torn from unfulfilled longings”. Conclusion: "A film about love, affairs and getting older that is well worth seeing."

Kino.de spoke of a clever women’s film, an “ironic romantic comedy” about the “hormonal confusion of a 42-year-old who suddenly discovered completely new desires that her bourgeois dream life cannot fulfill.” It also said, Sabine Derflinger treats "mid-life crisis and affairs refreshingly biting".

Cinefacts .de wrote that the film looked “like a lively, but also profound, French drama comedy. Artificial and full of life at the same time ”. There was also talk of “pointed dialogues”, “two wonderful leading actors who played the pointed-tongued, ostensibly so sovereign married couple with the perfect Teutonic hypothermia, under which only silent despair and emptiness” fermented. Conclusion: “More amusing, more ironic and, not least thanks to the actors well worth seeing, more exciting ?? French ?? Summer film with an Austrian bite. "

Christian Buß from Spiegel Online dealt with the performance of the main actress Claudia Michelsen, whose role in this film is "an act of violence for every actress". Michelsen accomplishes this task as a "balancing act between self-extinction and self-discovery". He also found that there are “few German actresses who one could imagine wanting to watch them on such a self-liberation trip. Claudia Michelsen is one of them ”.

For Andrea Niederfriniger from Filmreporter.de , the film presented itself as a “light summer comedy with a subtle theme”, whose “characters” were “well” drawn. Despite the “emerging drama”, the film “never loses its relaxed, light atmosphere”. The strong acting performance of Claudia Michelsen is striking. “Just as impressive” is Tobias Moretti as an “unsympathetic lover and loveless husband”.
