 - July 10th : In the Battle of Dyrrhachium , Gaius Julius Caesar suffers a defeat in the civil war against Pompey and barely escapes the total annihilation of his legions.
 
- August 9th : In the Roman Civil War, Gaius Iulius Caesar defeats the troops of the Roman Senate , commanded by Pompey , at the Battle of Pharsalus in Thessaly, thereby consolidating his power in the entire Mediterranean region.
