history

The A'Rosa Blu in Lisbon

The company emerged from Seetours, a company jointly managed by Deutsche Seereederei (DSR) and the British shipping company P&O . From 2002, the Seetours offered for the first time under the brand name A'Rosa, in addition to sea cruises with the A'Rosa Blu, also river cruises on the Danube with two newly built ships, the A-Rosa Bella and the A-Rosa Donna . Two more ships for this new line of business were ordered for 2003 ( A-Rosa Mia ) and 2004 ( A-Rosa Riva ). After Carnival Corporation & plc acquired the sea cruise sector , DSR adopted the A-Rosa brand name for the river cruise business. As a result, the new owner renamed the cruise ship Aidablu in 2004 . The color design of the bow tip of the ships, which represents a red mouth, was adopted by both companies. The rose was only retained as a trademark at A-Rosa. The Deutsche Seereederei established the river cruise division within the group below the Arkona AG subsidiary, which is responsible for tourism .

With the two other newbuildings taken over by Neptun Werft at the same time , the A-Rosa Luna and the A-Rosa STELLA , A-Rosa started offering cruises on the Rhone and Saône in 2005 . In 2008 the management decided to offer cruises on the Rhine . For this purpose, two new ships were ordered from the Neptun shipyard, which were put into service in July 2009 ( A-Rosa Aqua ) and in March 2010 ( A-Rosa Viva ). A third reordered ship of the series, the A-Rosa Brava , was delivered on February 17, 2011.

On April 20, 2009, A-Rosa was spun off from Deutsche Seereederei as part of a management buy-out . The previously managing DSR partner Lars M. Clasen and the Chief Operating Officer of the river cruise division Markus Zoepke took over the shares in the GmbH together with the investment company Waterland Private Equity from Düsseldorf . Lars Clasen has only been a partner since 2013. Marketing and sales specialist Jörg Eichler took over his position as managing director in June of the same year.

The fleet was expanded in February 2011 with the cabin passenger ship A-Rosa Brava intended for cruises on the Rhine , and in July 2012 the new Rhine-Main-Danube cruise ship A-Rosa SILVA was christened in Amsterdam and put into service. The A-Rosa Flora was put into service at the start of the 2014 season.

Fleet and routes

A-Rosa Brava , sailing area on the Rhine , Main and Moselle

In 2020, the fleet will consist of 13 ships, five of which have been specially adapted to the respective trade area. All ships are new acquisitions and except for A-Rosa Alva (built in Portugal near West Sea ) were built at the Neptun shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde.

Rhine, Main and Moselle

The two ships of the Rhine fleet operate on 30 different routes depending on the season. The northernmost destination is Harlingen am Wattenmeer , southernmost Basel . The Moselle is traveled to Trier . The ships are serviced in the Deutzer Hafen in Cologne and in Frankfurt am Main . The structurally identical ships used there are each 135.0 m long and 11.4 m wide. They have 99 outside cabins and are approved for 202 passengers. Another ship with an additional deck is expected to be launched in 2021.

Rhine, Main, Moselle and Danube

A-Rosa Silva , sailing area on the Danube, Main, Moselle and Rhine

In mid-February 2011, the shipping company ordered two 2½-deck ships from the Neptun shipyard in Warnemünde, which were specially designed for the lower clearance heights on the Main-Danube Canal . The first ship ( A-Rosa Silva ) was delivered in 2012. The keel of the second ship ( A-Rosa Flora ) was laid on April 12, 2013, and has been in use since the end of March 2014. The ships are 135.0 m long and 11.4 m wide. They are approved for 186 passengers and for the first time have suites and “junior suites” in addition to the regular outside cabins.

Danube

A-Rosa Bella , sailing area on the Danube

The four ships of the Danube fleet operate on 17 different routes. The most westerly approached destination is Passau , the most easterly is Vilkovo on the Danube Delta in Ukraine . The structurally identical ships used there are each 124.5 m long and 14.4 m wide. They have 100 outside cabins and are approved for 242 passengers. Maintenance and repair work is carried out in Linz .

Rhône and Saône

A-Rosa Stella and Luna , sailing area on the Rhone and Saône

The two ships in the Rhône fleet operate on eight different routes. The northernmost destination is Chalon-sur-Saône in the Burgundy region , the southernmost is Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône at the mouth of the Rhône to the Mediterranean . The tours generally start in Lyon . The structurally identical ships used there are each 125.8 m long and 11.4 m wide. They have 86 outside cabins and are approved for 174 passengers.

His

A-Rosa Viva , sailing area on the Seine, at the pier in Saint-Denis

The A-Rosa VIVA has been on the Seine from Saint-Denis north of Paris to Normandy since 2017 . The last stage destination before the Atlantic is Caudebec-en-Caux . The ship is 135.0 m long and 11.4 m wide. It has 99 outside cabins and is approved for 202 passengers.

Douro

A-Rosa has also been on the Portuguese-Spanish river Douro (Spanish: Duero) since 2019. A special feature here is that due to regulations it is only allowed to sail in daylight, so the ship is in a port every night. The trips start and end in Porto , the last stop (and last port on the navigable part of the Douro) is the pier in Vega de Terrón. The A-Rosa Alva was specially adapted to the Douro and built at West Sea Estaleiros Navais in Viana do Castelo . The ship has 63 cabins for a maximum of 129 passengers and, with a length of 79.8 meters, is the shortest and smallest ship in the fleet due to the dimensions of the lock systems.
