Ann C. Crispin
Ann Carol Crispin (born Ann Carol Tickell on 5. April 1950 in Stamford , Connecticut , died on the 6. September 2013 in Waldorf , Maryland ) was an American science fiction - and fantasy - author . She has published over 20 novels, mostly under the author name AC Crispin.
Life
Her parents were George Arthur Tickell and Eleanor Hope Hooker. She studied at the University of Maryland , where she graduated in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in English.
Her first novel Yesterdays Son , a Star Trek - Tie-In , she had written in her spare time when they for the US Census Bureau worked. The novel was published in 1983 and Crispin became a full-time writer specializing in novel drafts and tie-ins in the science fiction genre. Her most successful work was the novel version of the miniseries V - The extraterrestrial visitors come , which became a bestseller with a circulation of over a million copies. This was followed by novel versions and tie-ins for Alien , Star Wars (a Han Solo series), other Star Trek tie-ins, as well as the Starbridge romance and finally a tie-in for Pirates of the Caribbean . In 2013 she was named a Grand Master by the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers .
Crispin was the Eastern Regional Director and also Vice President of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA). Together with the author Victoria Strauss founded and led Writer Beware in 1998 , a group within the SFWA that has set itself the goal of warning prospective authors of fraudulent agents and publishers, to assist them if necessary and to bring the cheaters and fraudsters of the literary industry to court bring. In 2004 she and her husband, science fiction writer Michael Capobianco , were honored for special services to the SFWA. Capobianco is also considered a specialist in tie-ins (including Star Trek). The couple had a son.
In early September 2013, Crispin announced that she had cancer and that she would not have long to live. Just three days later, she died of bladder cancer at the age of 63 .
