AM is the fifth studio album of British indie rock - band Arctic Monkeys . It was released on September 6, 2013 on the indie label Domino Records .

Creation and publication

The album was produced from August 2012 to June 2013, the executive producer was, as with the previous album, James Ford . The recordings were made at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles and at Studio Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree . Before the album was released, a total of three singles were released: RU Mine? was released on February 27, 2012, before only over a year later on June 19, 2013 with Do I Wanna Know? the introductory song was released. On August 11, 2013, Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? until the album itself was finally released on September 6, 2013, initially only in Australia. On September 9th it was published in Germany, France and Great Britain, and on September 10th it was also published in the United States.

The album received mostly positive reviews from critics .

Michael Schuh rated the album with full points on laut.de and placed it above the debut Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not . Rolling Stone's Jon Dolan gave the album 3.5 out of 5 stars. It is the band's most American album, especially on the rhythmic level. Stephen Thomas Erlewine gives 4 out of 5 stars on allmusic.com and describes the album as unsuitable for a night on the road, but ideal for a night at home. The NME even considers the album to be the best of the decade so far and awarded it the highest rating with 10 out of 10 points.

successes

In the album charts, the album reached numerous top positions. It was number one in Australia, Denmark, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Great Britain, among others. It was number six on the Billboard 200 in the United States and number three in Germany.

With over 600,000 units sold, the album went double-platinum in the UK. It also received platinum in Ireland and Australia and gold in Belgium, Portugal and New Zealand.

It was named Best British Album at the BRIT Awards 2014 .
