Critical appraisal

“Favorite Worst Nightmare” received a metascore of 82. laut.de awarded 4/5 points and praised the fact that the band did not make it easy for themselves to copy the successful predecessor and only satisfy expectations, but rather possibly less catchy songs created. That is "worthy of all honor." ( Mathias Möller : Arctic Monkeys: Favorite Worst Nightmare)

The NME described Favorite Worst Nightmare as the most anticipated album since The Stone Roses ' second album , but which could meet expectations. The album was certified as great and got 9/10 points. Q said that not only had the songs gotten better, but also their performance. The Guardian awarded full marks with 5/5 points and placed the band at the top of their own and every other league. The Spex praised the album as "successful Nachwurf with simultaneous musical extension." ( René Hamann : Arctic Monkeys - Favorite Worst Nightmare)

However, there was also criticism. So put Plattentests.de found that Favorite Worst Nightmare neither the sense of invincibility radiating the debut album, the band still significantly new had occurred. Noripchord noticed raging and enthusiasm, but was unable to find much substance and only awarded 4/10 points.
