Abens is a parish village and a former municipality in the northern district of Freising . The place is in the southern Hallertau , the most important hop-growing area in Germany, near the area of origin of the Abens river , about 25 kilometers north of the district town of Freising . Abens has been part of the Au idHallertau market since 1978 . The place has 420 inhabitants.

history

Abens is the fourth oldest parish in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising after Altomünster , Waging am See and Otting . It was founded by Adalunc and his son Hununc de Abunsma in the year 759. This was the reason for the first documentary mention in evening in the traditions of the bishopric of Freising .

In the late Gothic period, i.e. in the 14th or 15th century, a larger church was built in Abens, remains of which can still be found in the masonry of the tower substructure. The miraculous image of Our Lady of Abens , carved from wood, was created around 1460, but the Marian pilgrimage to Abens is said to date back to around 1270. Today's baroque style church was built under the direction of Landshut's master mason Johann Georg Hirschstötter between 1738 and 1740.

The place Abens belonged politically to the Obmannschaft Herbersdorf in the Duchy of Bavaria , together with the places (Grub) Anger, Dellnhausen , Harham, Hemhausen, Herbersdorf, Holzhof, Mooshof, Piedendorf and Trillhof. In the course of the formation of the community after the second community edict, the independent rural community of Hemhausen emerged from the chairmanship of Herbersdorf over the tax district Hemhausen in 1808 through the community edict of 1818 .

With the municipal reform , Hemhausen merged with Hirnkirchen on January 1, 1971 to form the new municipality of Abens. After the dissolution of this community, Abens became a district of Au in der Hallertau on May 1, 1978.

Attractions

The townscape of Abens is shaped by the Catholic pilgrimage church of the Birth of the Virgin , a baroque hall with an apse and a late Gothic west tower. The new building by Johann Georg Hirschstötter was built in 1738–40.
