Abbas Abubakar Abbas ( Arabic أبو بكر عباس, DMG Abū Bakr ʿAbbās ; * May 17, 1996 in Kano ) is a Bahraini sprinter of Nigerian origin who has been eligible to compete in Bahrain since 2013.

Athletic career

Abubakar Abbas gained his first international experience at the 2013 Youth World Championships in Donetsk , where he was disqualified in the 400 meter final. In addition, he retired with the Bahraini sprint relay (1000 meters) in the preliminary round. The following year he won the Arab Junior Championships in Cairo over 200 meters and won silver in the 400-meter run . He qualified for the Junior World Championships in Eugene , where he won the bronze medal in 46.20 s. At the end of October he first took part in the Asian Games in Incheon , South Korea , where he won the silver medal behind the Saudi Arabian Yousef Ahmed Masrahi in 45.62 seconds .

In 2015 he won bronze at the Arab Championships in Manama and was fourth in the Asian Championships in Wuhan in 46.15 s. He also qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where he was eliminated with 45.64 s in the run . At the end of October he won the bronze medal in 45.73 s at the Military World Games in Mungyeon . In addition, he was disqualified with the Bahraini 4-by-400-meter relay and could not finish his pre-run over 200 meters. In 2016 he won the silver medal behind Katari Abdalelah Haroun at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha in 46.60 seconds . During the outdoor season, he qualified in the 400-meter run for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , in which he was eliminated with 46.01 s in the first round . The following year he was sixth at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku . In 2018 he again took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta , where he finished seventh in 46.46 s. He also won the mixed relay and was fifth in the men's relay in 3: 03.97 min. In 2019 the gold medal with the mixed relay was revoked because of a doping offense of his colleague Kemi Adekoya . In 2019 he won the Arab Championships in Cairo in 45.90 seconds and only had to admit defeat to Kuwaiti Youssef Karam after 45.14 seconds in the subsequent Asian Championships in Doha . He also won the mixed season in 3: 15.75 minutes. At the beginning of October he reached the world championships in Doha over 400 meters to the semifinals , in which he was eliminated with 45.26 s. He also won the bronze medal behind the United States and Jamaica with the mixed relay in 3: 11.82 minutes. He then won the World Military Games in Wuhan in 45.84 s over 400 meters and in 3: 06.20 min with the men's relay.
