At the same time, the Adlisberg is also shaped by traffic. The Dolderbahn , a cogwheel train , enables a quick ascent out of the city. The busy Tobelhofstrasse connects Zurich with Gockhausen and Dübendorf, another Witikon with the zoo and Fluntern. In addition, the Adlisberg is crossed by the almost five kilometer long Zürichberg tunnel of the Zürich S-Bahn .

history

Around 1130, the Duelstein Castle was built on the eastern slope , the seat of the Lords of Dübendorf. It burned down in 1611. Most of the forest, however, belonged to the monastery on the Zürichberg , after the Reformation of the city of Zurich and the communities of Hottingen and Fluntern. The Grand Hotel was built in the Dolder between 1897 and 1899, and today it characterizes the entire quarter.

At the beginning of the 1970s, the city of Zurich pursued the idea of building a forest town on the Adlisberg . 45 hectares of forest were to be cleared in order to build a long line of residential towers with apartments for 100,000 people. The lined up blocks of flats, some of which were up to 100 meters high, should stretch for more than two kilometers around the mountain along the edge of the hilltop. The canton did not approve the clearing .
