Adolf Achenbach

Adolf Achenbach (born January 5, 1825 in Saarbrücken , Rhine Province , † June 13, 1903 in Clausthal ) was a Prussian civil servant ( Privy Council ) and mining captain .

Life

After studying mining in Berlin and Bonn, Adolf Achenbach became a mining trainee lawyer in the Rheinisches Oberbergamt Bonn in 1853 . He was commissioned to geologically examine the Hohenzollern lands. In 1859 he became a mountain assessor and administrator of the Burbach mining district . In 1865 he was appointed Oberbergrat at the Oberbergamt Dortmund . In 1869 he became chairman of the Saarbrücken mines' management and in 1870 he became secret mountain ridge. Despite the difficult times of war, Adolf Achenbach managed to develop the Saargruben further.

From 1878 Achenbach worked for 22 years as a mining captain and director at the Clausthal mining authority . Despite the fall in the price of silver , he was able to prevent restrictions and discontinuations in the mining and smelting operations. Adolf Achenbach was chairman of the board of trustees of the unified mountain school and mining academy Clausthal . In 1879 he had to defend himself against the plans of the Prussian government to close the Bergakademie and the Oberbergamt in Clausthal. In 1884, through a directive to preserve and collect historical mining equipment and facilities, he initiated the establishment of the Upper Harz Mining Museum, which was completed in 1892 . Achenbach collected manuscripts on the history of the Harz mining industry, owned a collection of handpieces and miners toughness . In addition, he left a collection of bell inscriptions.

Honors

He was a member of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors . The mining towns of Clausthal and Sankt Andreasberg granted Achenbach honorary citizenship . In the Grund ore mine , an important shaft was named Achenbachschacht. A street in Saarbrücken was named after him.

Achenbach received the Order of the Red Eagle, Second Class with Oak Leaves, in 1888 for his achievements . In 1893 he was given the honorary title of a Real Secret Upper Mountain Ridge and in 1900, when he retired, the title of Excellency .
