Al-Iskandariyya ( Arabic محافظة الإسكندرية Muhāfazat al-Iskandariyya , DMG Muḥāfaẓat al-Iskandariyya , Egyptian-Arabic Muḥāfẓet El Eskenderiya ), also Alexandria , is a governorate in Egypt with 5,163,750 inhabitants and is located on the Mediterranean Sea . It's next to Cairo (القاهرة- al-Qāhira ) and Giza (الجيزة- al-Ǧīza ) one of the country's three city governors. The seat of the governorate is Alexandria .

It borders the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the al-Buhaira governorate to the east and the Matruh governorate to the west .
