Al-Minufiyya ( Arabic محافظة المنوفية Muhafazat al-Minufiyya , DMG Muḥāfaẓat al-Minūfiyya ), also Monufia or Menufeya , is a governorate in Egypt with 4,301,601 inhabitants and is located in the western Nile Delta .
It borders in the north on the governorate al-Gharbiyya , in the east on the governorate al-Qalyubiyya , in the south on the governorate al-Jiza and in the west on the governorate al-Buhaira . The administrative center is Shibin al-Barely . The main campus of Minufiya University is also located there .
With Anwar as-Sadat (1918–1981) and Muhammad Husni Mubarak (* 1928) two former presidents of Egypt were born in al-Minufiyya.
