Albert Hein , called the Elder , also Albert Heinsius (born February 17, 1571 in Rostock ; † August 31, 1636 ibid) was a German legal scholar and diplomat .

Life

The son of the Rostock professor, Mecklenburg councilor, syndicus and mayor Friedrich Hein (1533-1604) and his wife Anna, the daughter of the Rostock councilor Albrecht Dobbin, had received his first private education. Then he attended the Rostock city school, which was under the direction of Nathan Chyträus . In 1587 he moved to the University of Strasbourg , where he especially attended the lectures of Melchior Junius . In 1590 he continued his studies for a short time at the University of Rostock , studied in 1592 and 1593 at the University of Basel and in 1593 at the University of Heidelberg and in 1594 in Sedan and Paris . He then went on an educational trip to France .

In 1596 he returned to Rostock, where he became a full professor of the decetals and received his doctorate in law on September 16, 1596 . In 1610 he resigned his professorship and was appointed privy councilor to Duke Johann Albrecht II of Mecklenburg in Güstrow . For this he worked in various diplomatic services and in 1612 he moved back to Rostock, where he died. On September 5, 1636, his body was buried in the Jacobi Church in Rostock , where an epitaph was erected for him. He had hardly distinguished himself literarily, but was more involved in practical matters.

family

Hein was married three times. He had his first marriage in 1597 with Catharina (1573-1619), the daughter of the Lübeck citizen Heinrich Horstmann and his wife Anna von Hassel. From this marriage there were six sons and one daughter. Through that marriage he had become a brother-in-law of Jakob Bording (1547-1616). His second marriage was in 1620 with Anna († 1631), the widow of Balthasar Han and the daughter of the Rostock professor of institutes and antecessors at the University of Marcus Lüschow (1541-1601) and Gertrud (née Kron). There are no children from this marriage. He concluded his third marriage in 1634 with Margaretha, the widow of the chamber secretary Simon Pauli and the councilor in Rostock Albrecht Dobbin and daughter of the princely Mecklenburg secretary Georg Hagemeister. This marriage also remained childless. From the children we know:

  • Friedrich Hein (1598–1629), Substitute Professor Rostock
  • Albert Hein (the younger) (1629–1658), was a Mecklenburg court counselor
  • Heinrich Hein, studied law
  • Johann Albert Hein, received a master's degree and studied theology
