Albrecht Conze

Albrecht Conze (born June 2, 1954 in Münster ) is a German diplomat . He has been the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Uganda since the end of July 2017.

biography

Conze studied law and political science in Freiburg im Breisgau , Heidelberg , Geneva and Cambridge . After completing his doctorate in international law and the assessor examination in Berlin , he joined the Foreign Service in 1981 . Since then he has worked for the Foreign Office in Hong Kong , Beijing , Vienna , Warsaw , Tunis and Moscow .

He served twice in United Nations peace missions : in 1999 and 2000 with the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo and from 2004 to 2006 as Political Director of the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . In this function, he was very committed to German participation in the EU stabilization mission to secure the first democratic elections in the Congo for over 40 years.

In 2006 he became Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Benin . Ludwig Linden became his successor in 2008 . Subsequently, Conze was the successor to Karin Blumberger-Sauerteig, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Zimbabwe until June 2011 . From August 2011 to July 2012 he was a research fellow at Harvard University as a visiting fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. He then went to Bangladesh as ambassador for two years from July 2012 to April 2014. His successor there was Thomas Prinz in April 2015 .

From June 2014 to July 2017 Conze was the first head of the civil stabilization mission EUCAP Sahel Mali of the European Union based in Bamako. The mission, set up by the European Council on April 15, 2014, is intended to help strengthen the security sector in Mali by training and advising the police, gendarmerie and national guard.

His next assignment took him to Uganda as ambassador in July 2017 .

In 1993, Ammann Verlag published adaptations of three cycles by the Chinese poet Yang Lian .

His father was the Heidelberg historian Werner Conze . He is married to screenwriter Véronique Le Lay and has two children.
