Karl Sebastian Alexander von Johnston (born August 26, 1791 in Ziebendorf near Lüben , † October 20, 1866 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

His parents were Hans Sebastian Rudolf von Johnston (1759–1814) and his wife Beate Constanze, born von Wrochem (1759–1831) from the Dollenzien family. His father was Herr auf Peterwitz, state elder of the Principality of Neisse and lieutenant a. D.

Military career

Johnston joined the cuirassier regiment "von Werther" of the Prussian Army on January 1, 1803 as a standard junker and was promoted to secondary lieutenant until the beginning of July 1806 . In the Fourth Coalition War he was wounded in the Battle of Auerstedt and after the Peace of Tilsit Johnston retired from the army on May 4, 1808.

Under the aggregation of the Silesian Cuirassier Regiment, he was re-employed in the Prussian Army on September 11, 1812. During the Wars of Liberation , Johnston took part in the battles at Großgörschen , Bautzen , Dresden , Kulm , Montmirail , Laon and Paris, as well as the battles at Haynau , Liebertwolkwitz , Etoges, Issy and Sezanne. At Liebertwolkwitz he received a stab in the chest and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class.

On March 25, 1815 he was transferred to the newly formed 4th Cuirassier Regiment and on March 30, 1823, he was aggregated as Rittmeister to the regiment. On November 29, 1823, Johnston came as a squadron chief in the 8th Cuirassier Regiment and rose in mid-June 1839 with the promotion to major to regular staff officer . In this position he received the Commander's Cross of the House Order of the White Falcon at the end of November 1845 . On December 7th, 1846 he was initially assigned to lead the 1st Uhlan Regiment and on January 13th, 1848 he was appointed regimental commander. In the same capacity, he was transferred to the 4th Cuirassier Regiment on August 3, 1848 . There he was on May 8, 1849 Lieutenant Colonel and on January 18, 1851 to Colonel promoted. On December 16, 1852 he received his departure with the character as major general. He died in Breslau on October 20, 1866.

Johnston married Emilie von Schill (1803–1871) on July 1, 1824, with whom he had the following children:
