Alexandre Joly (bishop)

Alexandre François Marie Joly (born October 9, 1971 in Saint-Malo , France ) is a French clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Rennes .

Life

Alexandre Joly entered the Paray-le-Monial seminary in 1989 . From 1993 he continued his studies of Catholic theology in Rome as an alumne of the French Pontifical Seminary . Joly was ordained a deacon on June 29, 1996 and received the sacrament of priestly ordination on June 28, 1997 by the Archbishop of Rouen, Joseph Duval . In 2000 he was at the Pontifical Gregorian University for doctor of theology doctorate . Joly also completed a one-year study visit to the University of Oxford .

In 2000 Alexandre Joly became parish vicar in the parish of Notre-Dame in Rouen and diocesan pastor for the students. From 2003 to 2013 Joly was pastor of the parish Saint-Jacques in Mont-Saint-Aignan . He was also in charge of catechesis in the Archdiocese of Rouen from 2006 to 2008 and Secretary General of the Diocesan Synod of Rouen from 2008 to 2010 . In 2013 Alexandre Joly became pastor of the parish Saint-Paul in Quevilly - Couronne and episcopal vicar for the laity. From 2011 to 2018 he was also in charge of the liturgy in the Archdiocese of Rouen. Joly has been vicar general since 2017 .

On 14 December 2018 it appointed Pope Francis to the titular bishop of Privata and Auxiliary Bishop in Rennes. The Archbishop of Rennes, Pierre d'Ornellas , donated him episcopal ordination on February 10, 2019 ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Rouen, Dominique Lebrun , and the Archbishop Emeritus of Rouen, Jean-Charles Marie Descubes .
