Alexei Alexejewitsch Morosow ( Russian Алексей Алексеевич Морозов ; born February 16, 1977 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player ( right winger ). In the course of his career he played seven years for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League and for Krylja Sowetow Moscow , Ak Bars Kazan and HK CSKA Moscow in the Russian Super League and Continental Hockey League, respectively . He won the Russian championship several times and five medals at ice hockey world championships . In 1998 he won the silver medal at the Olympic Winter Games with the Sbornaja .
Career
Alexei Morozov began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth division of Krylja Sowetow Moscow , for whose professional team he was active in the top Russian league from 1993 to 1997. In the 1994/95 season, the striker also belonged to the Kryljas delegation, which played friendly games against teams of the North American International Hockey League under the name Soviet Wings . In the 1995 NHL Entry Draft , the winger was selected in the first round as the 24th player of the Pittsburgh Penguins , for whom he was on the ice from 1997 to 2004 for a total of seven years in the National Hockey League . He then returned to his Russian homeland, where he received a contract with Ak Bars Kazan in the Super League .
With Kazan, the left-handed shooter became Russian champions for the first time in the 2005/06 season . As the top scorer and top scorer in the main round as well as top scorer, top scorer and assists in the playoffs, he played a decisive role in this success . After the runner-up in 2007, he won the Gagarin Cup with Kazan in the 2008/09 season , the newly founded Continental Hockey League . With Ak Bars, the 1998 Olympian also won the IIHF European Champions Cup at European level in 2007 . As the most valuable player , best striker, top scorer and best assists of the tournament, he was again instrumental in winning the title. The following year , the former NHL player won the IIHF Continental Cup with Kazan . Most recently, he was able to win the Gagarin Cup again with Kazan in the 2009/10 season .
In May 2013 he left the club, as did Danis Saripov , with whom he had played in a row for many years. Morosow received a two-year contract with HK CSKA Moscow . For CSKA he collected 23 points scorer in 42 games this season before his contract was terminated prematurely in July 2014.
International
For Russia Morosow took part in the U18 European Junior Championships in 1995 , the Junior World Championships in 1996 and 1997 and the A-World Championships in 1997 , 1998 , 2004 , 2007 , 2008 and 2009 . He was also in the Russian squad for the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano .
