Everything for my daughter is a German television film directed by René Heisig from 2013. Ann-Kathrin Kramer plays Ines Erdmann, a mother who is confronted with her past after 16 years when suddenly her daughter Clara ( Alicia von Rittberg ) stands in front of her. Johanna Gastdorf and Bernhard Schütz play other leading roles as Clara's parents and Hans-Jochen Wagner as Boris Erdmann.

action

The math and sports teacher Ines Erdmann comes home after her jog in the morning and is slightly disappointed that her husband has already left the house because it is her birthday. When she opens a door, the choir of her friends can be heard singing Happy Birthday , and of course her husband Boris, a journalist, is among the well-wishers. Later there is a slide show in which Boris Erdmann traces his wife's previous life. The only passion he doesn't share with her is his love of mathematics, he says with a smile. Both have a very happy marriage and so far have wanted a child in vain. Ines gynecologist recommends hormone therapy .

During a lesson, Clara Liebner, a new student, comes into Ines' class. At the second glance at the girl Ines can hardly believe her eyes. Immediately after class, she goes to her best friend Simone and tells her, completely distressed, that her daughter is a new student in her class. Ines had never told her husband Boris that she had given birth to a child and put it up for adoption. Clara's date of birth is the same as her daughter's birth date 16 years ago. At the request of her parents, Clara changed schools because her grades are cause for concern and her transfer is at risk. Her parents, a couple of doctors, hope that Clara will cope better at the new school and that her performance will improve again, as she should definitely do the Abitur . Ines watches the young girl and her adoptive mother go shopping. The tastes of mother and daughter are drifting apart. Ines speaks to Simone again, who says she shouldn't penetrate Clara's life, which Ines doesn't want to admit. At the Rector's request, Ines spoke to the Liebner couple, whom she asked for advice. When she suggests tutoring, the Liebners ask her to take over the lessons. After Ines refuses, because she is actually not allowed to, she then changes her mind, as it gives her the opportunity to be with her daughter. A conversation with Erik Liebner alone allows Ines to see more clearly. He says the daughter no longer has any self-confidence because his wife makes every decision for her. A heart failure , because of which Clara is exempt from physical education, was years ago. She is now completely healthy, but as a precaution his wife had the certificate extended by a colleague. Ines watches how Clara runs, she makes her the offer to join the school team. Clara wants to think about it.

Boris Erdmann now suspects that his wife is having an affair because she is absent so often and otherwise strange as he thinks. The married couple quarrel because Ines cannot bring herself to tell her husband everything. Boris Erdmann is temporarily moving into his boat shed. Ines' friend Simone persuades her whether she doesn't believe that those involved have a right to the truth. There is trouble in the Liebner household when Clara's mother finds out that her daughter is on the school team, she also accuses Ines Erdmann and says that she thinks she is irresponsible. Erik Liebner intervenes. The Liebner couple have decided to go away for a weekend to discuss in peace how they want to tell Clara that she is adopted. Kathrin Liebner in particular is very afraid of this revelation. Ines Erdmann takes care of the girl during this time. When the two go shopping, it quickly becomes apparent that their tastes are similar.

Just as Ines wants to confess everything to her husband, Clara calls and needs help. Ines sets off immediately. Clara is giving a party at her parents' house that has gotten out of hand, most of the teenagers are drunk. Kathrin Liebner, who has meanwhile returned prematurely from the little trip with her husband, asks Ines to leave her house and leave her family alone. The next morning the Liebners finally talk to Clara. She remains very still, only her face reflects the chaos of emotions that rages in her. Clara, who hasn't been to school for the last two days, appears at Ines' house and wants to talk to her. Boris Erdmann rings the doorbell at Dr. Liebner and asks about Ines. When he discovers a picture of Clara as a child, he asks puzzled why there is a photo of his wife there. Liebner switched quickly and asked Boris Erdmann whether his wife had a daughter she had given up for adoption. When he talks about it to his wife a little later, she overreacts and wants to go to Ines Erdmann's house immediately. Clara wants to know from Ines how you can simply give your child away, what kind of mother it is. When the doorbell rings and her adoptive parents are at the door, she says she'll stay with Ines, at least she's not fooling her. Now Ines has to tell her the truth. Without a word, Clara stands up and leaves.

Ines runs until she is completely exhausted. In the boathouse there is finally a discussion between her and her husband. When she wants to talk to her daughter the other day, she accuses her of simply giving it away 16 years ago and when Ines interjects that it is not as easy as it seems, she yells at her, but it is easy, easy times to tell the truth. A discussion ensues between Clara and her adoptive mother. She gives her daughter running shoes - out of love. A caress from Clara and a timid "Mama". Then Clara calls Ines. Her birth mother tells her about that time and that her father Michael died in a car accident four months before she was born. Ines protests that she wanted to spare her from having to grow up with a grieving and emotionally impaired mother, she was at the end of the day and had spent more than half a year in a clinic. Then she would not have been able to reverse her decision, it was too late. “And who will tell me that I can now rely on you?” Asks Clara. "I" is Ines' simple answer. The Erdmanns and Liebners watch the start of the school relay, in which Clara is running.

criticism

TV Spielfilm gave a thumbs up, gave one of three points for humor, aspiration and tension and found that this "interesting melodrama" offered an "explosive starting point":

“Emotional chaos surrounding a mother on autopilot. Well cast, realistic, solidly staged. "

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv found that an “unusual adoption story” was being told in which the “biological mother sneaked into the life of her daughter.” Tittelbach particularly emphasized the top-class cast not only of the main characters, but also in all supporting supporting roles emerge:

“A fascinating film. Ann-Kathrin Kramer has not been seen so well for a long time and Alicia von Rittberg confirms her position as the young talent of the year. The supporting roles are also well cast. For a long time there is nothing to feel good about in this Degeto jewel about the delicate growth of trust, the healing power of communication and the corrosive power of speechlessness! "

Eva Maria Kaczmarczyk from Unitymedia included the decision of a mother to give away her own child in her judgment and was of the opinion that the family drama "shines with empathy and a slow development of tension", which favors the development of the individual characters, so that enough time for hers Development remains:

“Unwanted childlessness and adoption are considered difficult issues in the television landscape. It is all the more remarkable that such a sensitive approach to the topic is successful. Ann-Kathrin Kramer convinces as Ines Erdmann and fills the drama with real life. René Heisig, who staged numerous 'Tatort' episodes, relied on emotional nuances when telling the family story. "

The television magazine prisma also spoke of a strong cast of actors, but criticized the fact that the story was not consistently credible and that it pressed too hard on the lacrimal gland towards the end:

"In addition to the well-performing Ann-Kathrin Kramer as a teacher, who suddenly discovered her mother's instincts, the young actress Alicia von Rittberg, who comes from Munich, is particularly convincing ('The Secret of the Whales', 'The Seductress Adele Spitzeder', 'And All Have Silent') in the role of Clara. Hans-Jochen Wagner, who can be seen as an inexperienced father, was in front of the camera three years earlier in Matthias Tiefenbacher's thematically similar mother-daughter story 'The House of Her Father' (with Anneke Kim Sarnau and Janina Stopper).
