Almorox is a municipality of 2105 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in the Spanish province of Toledo in the autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha . The A 5 southwest motorway, which runs from Madrid to Lisbon , passes 20 km south of Almorox. The place on the N403 is at the south-eastern foot of the Sierra de Gredos .

Spanish Civil War

The Aeródromo , two and a half kilometers south of the town and east of the N-403, was used as a field airfield by parts of Jagdgruppe 88 of the German Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War . In February / March 1937 their 2nd squadron (2./J88) was located here, which was the first squadron of the J / 88 to receive the then new Bf 109 .
