Aloisius Fortis
Aloisius Fortis (born February 26, 1748 in Verona , † January 29, 1829 in Rome ) was the 20th general of the Jesuit Order (Societas Jesu).
Life
In 1762, at the age of only 14, Fortis began the novitiate in Venice . He taught at the University of Ferrara . After the dissolution of the order, he taught at a school for nobles.
When the 19th General Tadeusz Brzozowski died on February 5, 1820, the General Assembly elected Fortis as his successor on October 18 of the same year. Fortis spent his tenure restoring the Order internally and externally. He died in Rome on January 29, 1829. His successor was Joannes Philippus Roothaan .
