Aloysius Ferdinandus Zichem CSsR (born February 28, 1933 in Paramaribo ; † November 13, 2016 ) was a Surinamese religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Paramaribo .

Life

Aloysius Ferdinandus Zichem joined the Congregation of the Redemptorists in and received on 14 August 1960, the priestly ordination .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on October 2, 1969 auxiliary bishop in Paramaribo and titular bishop of Fuerteventura . The Bishop of Paramaribo, Stephanus Joseph Maria Magdalena Kuijpers CSsR, donated him episcopal ordination on February 8 of the following year ; Co- consecrators were Patrick Webster OSB , Auxiliary Bishop in Saint George's in Grenada , Alfred Aimé Léon Marie CSSp , Bishop of Cayenne , Bernard Jan Cardinal Alfrink , Archbishop of Utrecht , Joannes Maria Michael Holterman OP , Bishop of Willemstad , Luigi Barbarito , Apostolic Nuncio in Haiti , Gordon Anthony Pantin CSSp, Archbishop of Port of Spain , Richard Lester Guilly SJ , Bishop of Georgetown , Samuel Emmanuel Carter SJ, Archbishop of Kingston, Jamaica , and Arnold Boghaert CSsR, Bishop of Roseau .

He was appointed Bishop of Paramaribo on August 30, 1971, and was introduced to the office on October 24 of the same year. Pope John Paul II accepted his health-related resignation on August 9, 2003.
