The Diocese of Willemstad ( Latin : Dioecesis Gulielmopolitana ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Willemstad on Curaçao . It includes the states of Aruba , Curaçao and Sint Maarten as well as the Caribbean Netherlands ( Bonaire , Saba and Sint Eustatius ).

history

In 1752, the Apostolic Prefecture of Curaçao was established by Pope Benedict XIV from cessions of territory from the Diocese of Caracas . The Apostolic Prefecture of Curaçao was founded on September 20, 1842 by Pope Gregory XVI. raised to the apostolic vicariate .

On April 28, 1958, the Vicariate Apostolic Curacao was by Pope Pius XII. raised to the diocese and renamed the diocese of Willemstad . The diocese of Willemstad was directly subordinate to the Holy See ( immediately ). On July 29, 1968, the Diocese of Willemstad was by Pope Paul VI. Subordinated to the Archdiocese of Port of Spain as a suffragan with the Apostolic Constitution Si quis mente .
