Aloysius of Amelunxen

Aloysius Sebastian von Amelunxen (born April 17, 1787 in Mainz , † March 5, 1860 in Helmersen near Nettlingen ) was an Elector General of Hesse . Amelunxen was a member of the Kurhessische Estates assembly several times from 1834 to 1841 .

Life

family

He came from the second line of the old, originally East Westphalian noble family von Amelunxen . His father Ernst August von Amelunxen (* February 16, 1748, † July 29, 1817) became a royal Prussian colonel . He married Elisabeth von Sohlern , the daughter of Baron Anton Joseph von Sohlern. The marriage resulted in seven daughters and three sons.

Aloysius was the couple's eighth child. His younger brother Arnold von Amelunxen (November 30, 1792 in Mainz, † March 17, 1859 in Höxter ) served as a major in the Prussian army . His son was the Prussian Lieutenant General August von Amelunxen .

Military background

Amelunxen was initially in Kurmainzer in 1799 and in Prussian service from 1802. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant in 1805 and as such experienced the campaign against France in 1806 during the Fourth Coalition War . In 1808 he entered royal Westphalian service as a sub-lieutenant and in 1809 took part in the campaign against Austria in the Fifth Coalition War. In 1810 he was promoted to Rittmeister . From 1812 to 1813 he served in the Westphalian Garde Chasseur Regiment and fought with this unit in the campaign against Russia , including the battle of Borodino , where he was wounded, and the battle of the Beresina .

In 1814, Amelunxen became a staff officer in the re-established Electorate of Hesse and fought in the campaigns against France during the wars of liberation . In 1821 he was an Elector of Hesse and in 1826 he was promoted to major in the 2nd Hussar Regiment Duke of Saxony-Meiningen. In 1832 he was lieutenant colonel in the Garde du Corps and in 1840 a colonel. From 1841 to 1843 he was commander of the Leibdragonerregiment and from 1844 commander of the cavalry brigade. In 1845 he was promoted to major general . From 1851 to 1853 he was chairman of the general auditorium, the highest military judicial authority in Hesse . In 1853 he retired as lieutenant general out of service . Aloysius von Amelunxen died on March 5, 1860 at the age of 72 in Helmersen, today a district of Nettlingen.

Member of the Electoral Hessian Estates Assembly

From 1834 to 1835, the 4th state parliament, Amelunxen was a member of the Estates Assembly of Kurhessen as a representative of Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld . From 1840 to 1841, the 7th state parliament, he was a member of the Electoral Hesse assembly of estates.

On March 3, 1842, Amelunxen was accepted as lord of Hofgeismar , Kelze and Poppenhausen ( deserted area near Hofgeismar) as a member of the Althessian knighthood . For his services he was awarded the title of land marshal .

Marriages and offspring

Aloysius von Amelunxen married Elisabeth Caroline Flachshaar, the daughter of a pastor, in 1814. The couple's eldest daughter, Auguste Elisabeth (October 30, 1814 in Hofgeismar; February 29, 1844 in Hofgeismar), married Adolf von Spiegel zu Peckelsheim, who later became the Prussian district administrator, in January 1839 . Her younger brother Friedrich Arnold Ernst von Amelunxen (born October 21, 1816 in Hofgeismar; † December 11, 1864 in Poppenhausen) served as Rittmeister in the Hessian cavalry. In January 1849 he married Angelika Heliodore Felicitas von Steuber, a daughter of the Hessian statesman and diplomat Wilhelm von Steuber .

On January 14, 1825, Aloysius von Amelunxen married Wilhelmine von Spiegel zu Peckelsheim (born November 22, 1804 in Helmern ; † April 16, 1860 in Königshof), a sister of his son-in-law Adolf von Spiegel zu Peckelsheim. From this marriage there were two daughters and one son. Theodor Werner Raban von Amelunxen (born September 20, 1828 in Hofgeismar), the son, became co-owner of Hofgeismar and Kelze and most recently served as Prussian Rittmeister in the 2nd Hussar Hussar Regiment, the unit to which his father had already belonged.
