Enst August Emil Freiherr von Amelunxen (born October 11, 1828 in Koblenz , † December 11, 1900 in Peckelsheim ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

He came from the Westphalian noble family von Amelunxen and was the son of Arnold von Amelunxen (born November 30, 1792 in Erfurt ; † March 17, 1859 in Höxter ) and his wife Arnoldine, née von Bellmont (born September 5, 1802 in Erfurt; † October 19, 1833 in Cologne). His father was major a. D. as well as co-owners of Hofgeismar and Kelze . His paternal uncle was Lieutenant General Aloysius von Amelunxen from the Electorate of Hesse .

Military career

Amelunxen was initially a cadet in Bensberg and Berlin from October 1840 . On May 2, 1846, he was transferred to the 15th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a porterage ensign. There he was promoted to second lieutenant on August 12, 1848 . As such, Amelunxen took part in the battles at Dons , Vejle and Aarhus during the campaign in Jutland in 1849 and repeatedly distinguished himself through personal bravery. Therefore, he was appointed regimental adjutant on December 15, 1852.

In the further course of his military career Amelunxen took part in the wars of unification against Denmark in 1864 and against Austria in 1866 . During the Franco-Prussian War he fought in the battles at Colombey , Gravelotte , Noisseville and Amiens . He was also at the siege of Metz and the battles at Robert-le-Diable and Moulineaux. For this he received the Iron Cross 2nd Class on September 25, 1870 and the Iron Cross 1st Class on January 6, 1871 .

From February 3, 1877 to June 11, 1880, he was in command of the 45th Infantry Regiment, then major general and commander of the 59th Infantry Brigade and on May 15, 1883, commander of the 42nd Infantry Brigade. On August 18, 1885, Amelunxen received the character of Lieutenant General and was also appointed Commandant of Frankfurt am Main . On February 11, 1886, he was appointed Commandant of Stettin, and was granted the patent for his rank . From that post he was released on August 3, 1886, under the star ceremony for Red Eagle II. Class with oak leaves and swords on rings with board for disposition made.

He now dedicated his estate to Ednis and began promoting agricultural associations. He belonged to the Chamber of Agriculture of the Province of Westphalia, was chairman of the Paderborn agricultural main association and was chairman of the Warburg agricultural district association.
