Old Church of St. Ulrich (Unterschleißheim)
The Old Church of St. Ulrich is a church building of the Roman Catholic Church in Unterschleißheim , an Upper Bavarian municipality in the district of Munich .
The church is dedicated to St. Ulrich von Augsburg . It served the parish of St. Ulrich until the construction of the new parish church of St. Ulrich as a parish church and since then as a subsidiary church . The building, together with the cemetery wall surrounding the church cemetery, is registered as a monument in the Bavarian list of monuments.
location
The church is located in the historic center of Unterschleißheim on the main street. Their orientation deviates from the ideal east by about 12 ° to the north. It is surrounded by a church cemetery , which is bordered with a wall made of red brick . To the north of the church is the Alter Wirt inn .
history
The building history of the church is not entirely clear. The late Gothic building that preceded the church was probably built around 1518. Only the sacristy attached to the south of the choir has survived . Probably in the 17th / 18th In the 19th century, the nave and choir were rebuilt or rebuilt in Baroque style . In 1856 the church was redesigned again. The side chapels and the bell tower were added . A lightning strike in 1951 caused a fire in the roof structure. Much of the equipment could be saved. The church was then restored. Another major restoration was carried out from 1976 onwards.
architecture
The church building is about 20 meters long and 8 meters wide and has a gable roof . In the east it ends in a three-eighths ending . In front of it is a bell tower in the west , which has a square floor plan with a side length of about 3 meters up to just above the roof ridge . Above that follows an octagonal structure with an onion dome.
In the eastern third, the church has two extensions with a hipped roof. A narrower extension on the north side contains a chapel, a wider extension on the south side contains another chapel and the sacristy.
Inside, Ortisei is a single-aisled hall church with a flat ceiling . A choir arch separates the nave from the choir , which is just as wide as the nave. Behind the choir arch, two chapels extend the interior of the church to the side in the manner of a transept . Behind it is the chancel with a popular and high altar . A door in the south choir wall leads to the sacristy.
Furnishing
The altars date from around 1893. The tabernacle of the high altar, which stands at the end of the choir, has a high tabernacle top bordered by columns. On both sides of it are figures of Saints Ulrich and Stephanus in niches . They are wood carvings from the early 16th century, the original painting of which has been removed. The side of the altarpiece is bordered by pilasters with Corinthian capitals . At the top it is closed by a cornice , above which an altarpiece with a round cornice rises. On the cornice above the tabernacle there is a gilded figure of the Holy Spirit in the shape of a dove.
The two side altars are in the chapels attached to the side of the nave. Similar to the high altar, their reredos are bordered on the sides by pilasters and on the top by a cornice with a round altarpiece. The side altar in the northern chapel shows a group of figures of the Holy Family and, in the extract, a painting of the Coronation of Mary . The side altar in the southern chapel shows a bust of St. Martin of Tours .
Other furnishings include a high relief of Saint Valentine from around 1510/20, a Pietà from the 2nd half of the 18th century, figures of Saints Sebastian and Florian in the choir , a crucifix on the right nave wall and on the opposite side On the left wall of the nave there is a statue of Our Lady showing Mary with the baby Jesus , a Way of the Cross along both walls of the nave and an organ in the organ gallery.
