Location of Kauerndorf in the city of Altenburg
The Spalating High School in Kauerndorf

Kauerndorf is a district of the Skatstadt Altenburg in Thuringia , which, due to its convenient location at Altenburg train station, grew by almost 20 times its population, especially during industrialization. This is how many town houses of the Wilhelminian era emerged. The Altenburger brewery is located in Kauerndorf.

geography

Kauerndorf is mostly built up, but borders in the southwest on the wooded area of the valley floor . Only the northern foothills around the historical center show that it was a village. The German Bach flows through the entire district, which then flows into the neighboring Rasephas in the Blue Flood, which belongs to the catchment area of the Pleiße . Up until the 19th century, the water dammed a wall island, which indicates the existence of a medieval moated castle. The highest point in Kauerndorf is the Lerchenberg.

history

The place is mentioned for the first time in the tithe register of the Bosau monastery in 1181. A manor existed in Kauerndorf until 1974, which however had no patronage rights over churches and parishes. There is no church in the place as usual in manor houses, the place is parish after Rasephas. On the Thümmel cadastral map from 1800 there was a further four-sided courtyard and 12 hand-fronted goods. In 1837 Kauerndorf had 102 inhabitants. The manor was completely demolished in 1805 and rebuilt in 1806/07. Since the owner, the Saxon cavalry officer Hans von Weidenbach , liked rural traditions, he also dressed in their traditional costumes . One of the most beautiful four-sided farms in Altenburg was built , which however fell victim to a fire in 1968. In 1974, most of the manor was demolished to make room for the four-lane crossroads of what was then Leninstrasse (today's Kauerndorfer Allee, B180) and Otto-Grotewohl -Allee ( Offenburger Allee). Only the southern stable building remained.

Kauerndorf belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which from the 16th century was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies due to several divisions during its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, it belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900). The place grew especially during the industrialization, so the south of the place consists of representative town houses. The population was 1910 2024 people. The Christian Spalatin high school and the Altenburg brewery, which opened in 1871, are located in the district . From 1918 Kauerndorf belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. Kauerndorf was incorporated into the city on October 1, 1922 as part of the second major incorporation of Altenburg, and at that time had around 2000 inhabitants.

With the first district reform of the GDR in 1950, Kauerndorf became part of the Altenburg district as a district of Altenburg . During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus Kauer village came to the district Altenburg at the Leipzig district , since 1990 as a county belonged to Altenburg Thuringia and opened in 1994 Altenburger in the district of the country.
