The place is located about 30 kilometers northwest of Linz , 24 kilometers west of Freistadt , between Rohrbach and Bad Leonfelden , 12 kilometers from the first and 8 kilometers from the second.

The Rotte Altenschlag is located in the southern Bohemian Forest foothills in the valley of the Altenschläger Bach at around 760  m above sea level. A. Height. The stream flows from the Traberg pass landscape near Ahorn northwards to the Weißenbach, the valley of which then turns eastwards towards Bad Leonfelden, and only there goes south to the Danube. The place Helfenberg is 2½ km northwest, Vorderweißbach 3½ km northeast, Ahorn 1½ km south.

The place with its scattered locations has almost 50 addresses with about 140 inhabitants. The Helfenberg village of Altenschlag , which stretches along the stream, includes the majority (approx. 40 buildings, 110 inhabitants). A few houses are scattered eastwards up the slope to the Höchlwald , and form a separate village of Vorderweissenbach. The latter already belongs to the Urfahr-Umgebung district, but to the Rohrbach judicial district . A remote farm 2 km to the north, still behind Geierschlag , on the northern slope of the Asberg (addresses Altenschlag  24, 42) also belongs to the village of Vorderweissenbach .

history

The place is mentioned as early as 1455, and at that time it belonged to the parish of Helfenberg . The name suggests that it is one of the early clearings in the area ( clearing name auf -schlag ).
