The District Court of Minden is a court of ordinary jurisdiction based in the East Westphalian city ​​of Minden . It is housed together with the Minden Administrative Court and the Minden Labor Court in the court center on Königswall in the western city center.

District and duties

The District Court (AG) Minden is responsible for the 80,000 inhabitants of the city of Minden, the 26,000 inhabitants of the city of Petershagen , the 36,000 inhabitants of the city of Porta Westfalica and the 16,000 inhabitants of the Hille municipality and thus for 158,000 inhabitants in the Minden-Lübbecke district. It is one of ten local courts in the district court district of Bielefeld.

The tasks relate to criminal and fine matters as well as civil disputes. In addition, the local court carries out any work that occurs within the framework of voluntary jurisdiction. As for all courts in the Hamm Higher Regional Court and Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court , the central dunning court is the Hagen District Court .

As the shipping court , the Minden District Court is also responsible for civil and criminal matters related to inland shipping . The area of ​​jurisdiction goes far beyond the actual judicial district and includes not only the North Rhine-Westphalian part of the Weser and the Mittelland Canal , but also the Hessian and Lower Saxony parts from Werra and Fulda as well as the Weser down to Nienburg / Weser inclusive, and also the Lower Saxony part of the Mittelland Canal including its branch canals.

In 1815 a regional and municipal court was set up, to which a part of the municipal and regional court district of Hausberge was affiliated in 1817. With the ordinance of January 2, 1849, this court was converted into a royal district court. On the basis of a royal ordinance, in 1879 it became the Royal District Court with an attached judicial prison in Kampstrasse. During the war the building was destroyed by two aerial bombs, and in 1953 the rebuilt building could be used again. In 1984 the newly built court center was moved into.

The former district court prison at Königswall 89 is a listed building .
