André de Ridder (born 1971 ) is a German classical music conductor who works mainly in Great Britain .

life and work

André De Ridder is the son of the conductor and professor Ludwig de Ridder. He studied conducting with Leopold Hager at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and with Sir Colin Davis at the Royal Academy of Music in London. On the one hand, the conductor is committed to the dialogue between the various musical genres, be it pop, jazz, folk, electronic music or opera, old music or contemporary compositions. On the other hand, he has been and is regularly invited to classical music festivals, including the Proms or the Edinburgh International Festival , the Holland Festival , the Biennale di Venezia , the Manchester International Festival or the Sydney Festival .

In the cross-over area he cooperated with the British band These New Puritans and the Cologne formation MusikFabrik , with the jazz musician Uri Caine and the composers Nico Muhly and Owen Pallett , with the electronics duo Mouse on Mars and the Danish indie Rock group Efterklang , pop singers Jonny Greenwood (from Radiohead ) and Bryce Dessner (from The National ). In 2012 de Ridder founded the music collective stargaze , which strives to combine classical with pop, folk, electronic and 'non-categorizable' music. The conductor and troupe have performed together in London, Manchester, Paris, Amsterdam, New York and Sydney and most recently founded their own Spring Festival in Berlin. As part of the opera, de Ridder rehearsed works by Mozart , Leoš Janáček and Hans Werner Henze, among others .

He has also directed a number of performances at the Komische Oper Berlin , the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki and the De Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam.

From 2007 to 2012 de Ridder was chief conductor of the Sinfonia ViVA , which is based in Derby (United Kingdom). In addition, he has been and is invited by a number of well-known orchestras, including the Britten Sinfonia , London Sinfonietta and Philharmonia Orchestra , the BBC Symphony Orchestra and other BBC orchestras, the Orchester de Paris , the Sjællands Symphony Orchestra of Copenhagen and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra . In January 2013 he achieved an extraordinary success in Australia with the soundtrack of Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey , first at the Sydney Opera House , then at Symphony in the Domain and finally at the Adelaide Festival . In 2016 he made his concert debut with the Concertgebouw Orchestra .
