Book The Paradise

The experiences of her childhood and youth in a socially declining district of Weimar flowed into an autobiographical book entitled Das Paradies. My youth after the wall , which appeared in 2011. Tobias Becker from the news magazine Der Spiegel praises Hünniger's first work: And “this is how you can give the autobiography Das Paradies the greatest compliment that you can give an autobiography: That you have the feeling that you have met the author. And that you'd like to get to know them better. ”For Christoph Schröder from the taz , the book is“ an angry struggle for dignity that disappears a little too ostentatiously behind the defiant attitude of coolness ”. The review by the Tagesspiegel describes the book as “a young woman's search for a part of her identity, full of sad but also amusing anecdotes” and as “an autobiographical narrative that tries to construct a story from mementos”. Karoline Laarmann expresses herself positively about the book and the author in the 1 live broadcast Plan B: "Quick-witted, charming and bitter at the same time, she describes what it feels like to grow up as a child of capitalism in the ruins of socialism." And advises her Listeners: “If you don't care about post-GDR literature, you should at least pick up this one real book. It's worth it. ” Jörg Magenau from the daily Süddeutsche Zeitung considers the publisher's description of the“ Collection of Stories from Family Life ”as a non-fiction book to be wrong and judges the author's book largely negatively:“ Because it is very individual and not “typical” first and foremost, it is boring. Because the individual is interchangeable ”and criticized:“ In addition, some scenes and descriptions are repeated in the various chapters - such as the one about the father next to the aquarium - as if the author had forgotten that she had already told you this, or as if the book were there put together from previously individually published texts and not revised thoroughly enough. "

Hünniger presented her novel on a readers' trip across Germany, including in Cologne , at the Frankfurter Kunstverein and at the Long Night of the Book in Berlin-Moabit, as well as in her home in Thuringia.
