Andreas Borgman (born June 18, 1995 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League since July 2019 and for their farm team, the San Antonio Rampage , in the American Hockey League plays in the position of defender .

Career

Andreas Borgman played in his youth for Huddinge IK in a suburb of his birth city of Stockholm, but switched subsequently to the youth program of Timrå IK from about 400 kilometers north located Timrå . For their junior teams, the defender then played in the J18 Allsvenskan and the J20 SuperElit , the highest Swedish leagues in these two age groups. In addition, he already made his debut in the Elitserien , Sweden's highest professional league, in the 2012/13 season , and took part with Timrå IK in the Kvalserien , in which the team was relegated from the Elitserien to the second-class Allsvenskan . There the Swede established himself in the Timrås squad over the next two seasons before moving to VIK Västerås HK within the league for the 2015/16 season. As a result, the defender achieved his best personal statistics in the Allsvenskan with 16 scorer points from 52 games and was finally signed by HV71 in March 2016 , so that he returned to the now renamed, first-class Svenska Hockeyligan (SHL).

In his first full SHL season, Borgman promptly won the Swedish championship with HV71 , while he led all rookies in the league in the plus / minus statistics (+23) and was consequently named SHL Rookie of the Year . With these achievements, the Swede also attracted attention in North America and therefore signed an entry contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs from the National Hockey League (NHL) in May 2017 . As part of the subsequent pre-season, the defender then won a place in the Maple Leafs squad and made his debut in the NHL in October 2017. During the season he was also on the farm team , the Toronto Marlies , active in the American Hockey League , which won the Calder Cup at the end of the season. As a result, Borgman began the 2018/19 season with the Marlies.

After two years in Toronto, the Swede was transferred to the St. Louis Blues in July 2019 , while Jordan Schmaltz moved to the Maple Leafs in return .

International

Borgman represented his home country in the junior division for the first time at the U18 World Cup in 2013 , in which he finished fifth with the Tre Kronor . His debut for Sweden's senior team followed on the Euro Hockey Tour in the 2016/17 season.
