Andrius Gudžius (born February 14, 1991 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian discus thrower .
Athletic career
Gudžius' start at the 2007 World Youth Championships in Ostrava was his first participation in a major athletics event. With a width of 61.59 m, he won the bronze medal in the final behind Mykyta Nesterenko and Marin Premeru . A year later he was sixth at the Junior World Championships in 2008 in Bydgoszcz, Poland, with a width of 58.63 m. At the Junior European Championships in Novi Sad in 2009 he reached fifth place with 60.05 m.
At the 2010 Junior World Championships in Moncton , Canada, Gudžius won the gold medal with a width of 63.78 m ahead of Andrei Gag and Julian Wruck . At the U23 European Championships in 2013 in Tampere , Finland , he also won gold, this time ahead of Wiktor Butenko and Danijel Furtula .
At the 2015 World Championships in Beijing , Gudžius could not qualify for the final of the top 12 with 62.22 m and 14th place in the qualification.
At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , Gudžius took twelfth and last place in the discus final with 60.66 m.
In 2017 Gudžius started at the 2017 World Championships in London and surprisingly won the gold medal in the final with a personal best of 69.21 m ahead of Daniel Ståhl and Mason Finley . At the end of 2017 he was named Lithuania's Sportsman of the Year .
In addition, Gudžius was three times Lithuanian champion in discus throwing and was second in the years 2010 to 2012.
