Antonio Filipazzi
Antonio Guido Filipazzi (born October 8, 1963 in Melzo , Milan Province , Italy ) is a Roman Catholic Archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .
Life
After graduating from high school, Antonio Filipazzi studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy from 1982 and graduated in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in theology. On October 10, 1987, he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Ventimiglia-San Remo through Cardinal Giuseppe Siri . In 1989 he acquired the Roman Atheneum of the Holy Cross , the licentiate in canon law and in 1992 was in the meantime to the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross College raised to Dr. iur. can. PhD . In addition, from 1989 to 1990 he was chaplain at the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Ventimiglia and lecturer in canon law at the Episcopal Seminary "Pius XI." In Bordighera . From 1990 to 1992 he attended the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy in Rome .
Then he was the secretary of the apostolic nunciature in Sri Lanka until 1995 . Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) on August 16, 1995 . From 1995 to 1998 Filipazzi was Nunciature Secretary in Austria and from 1998 to 2003 first Nunciature Secretary and later Nunciature Councilor at the Apostolic Nunciature in Germany . In 2002 and 2003 he also taught canon law at the “Redemptoris Mater” seminary in Berlin . In 2003 he was appointed to the Roman Curia as Nunciature Councilor , where he worked in the section for relations with the states of the Vatican State Secretariat until 2011 . On October 22, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI. the title of Honorary Prelate to His Holiness .
On January 8, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. the Titular Archbishop of Sutrium . The Pope personally donated his episcopal ordination on February 5th of the same year in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co-consecrators were Cardinal Dean Angelo Sodano and Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB . On March 23 of the same year he was called to be the Apostolic Nuncio in Indonesia .
Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria on April 26, 2017. On October 24, 2017, the Pope also appointed him permanent observer at the West African Economic Community .
