Antonio Ribeiro
António Cardinal Ribeiro (born May 21, 1928 in Gandarela de Basto , Portugal , † March 24, 1998 in Lisbon ) was Patriarch of Lisbon .
Life
António Ribeiro studied in Braga , Rome ( Pontifical Portuguese College ), Innsbruck and Munich the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology . He received on 5 July 1953 in Braga, the sacrament of holy orders and was then released for the purpose of further studies. Ribeiro received his doctorate in Rome in 1959 with a thesis on Thomas Aquinas . He then worked in Braga as a lecturer at the seminary and at the Institute for Social Sciences. He was also a temporary lecturer at the theological faculties of Innsbruck and Munich. In 1966 and 1967 he headed the administration of the diocese of Braga as vicar general .
On July 3, 1967, Pope Paul VI appointed him . as titular bishop of Tigillava and auxiliary bishop in Braga. He was ordained bishop by the Patriarch of Lisbon, Manuel Cardinal Gonçalves Cerejeira ; Co- consecrators were Francisco Maria da Silva , Archbishop of Braga, and António de Castro Xavier Monteiro , Auxiliary Bishop in Lisbon. In 1969 António Ribeiro became auxiliary bishop, in 1971 patriarch of Lisbon, and on January 24, 1972, he became Portuguese military bishop . In 1973 Pope Paul VI took it. as a cardinal priest with the titular church Sant'Antonio da Padova in Via Merulana in the College of Cardinals . Ribeiro was the youngest cardinal to have been appointed since 1930. He participated in the conclaves of August and October 1978 .
António Ribeiro died on March 24, 1998 in Lisbon and was buried in the patriarchal tomb of the São Vicente de Fora monastery.

In addition to working with numerous religious magazines and newspapers as well as his own publications, Ribeiro appeared in the television program Dia do Senhor on Portuguese television in 1960 .
