The Antrifttalsperre of water Association Schwalm with Vorsperre , dam and storage space a dam and at the same time detention basin (HRB) at the Antrift (in the underflow Antreff ) near Alsfeld in the central Hessian Vogelsberg and part of the catchment area of Fulda .

As always on pent-up dam it serves with its flood shelter the flood protection of the nearby villages below it (as Seibel village ) and it primarily protects the Antreff and Schwalm before flood . It is also used as a local recreation area. The southern part is under nature protection .

In addition to the Antrifttalsperre dam, the Schwalm water association operates the Treysa-Ziegenhain and Heidelbach flood retention basins .

Geographical location

The Antrift dam is located around 5 km northwest of the core town of Alsfeld . The southern part of the reservoir with the pre-dam belongs to Angenrod (district of Alsfeld), the northern part with the dam to Seibelsdorf (district of Antrifttal ). The reservoir is located on the Antrift whose flows roughly from S zoom flowing middle reaches into the pre-dam and then flow into the reservoir, and their Antreff called underflow exits the reservoir at its dam in the north-northwest.

The southern part of the reservoir and the pre-dam are part of the 13-hectare nature reserve Antrifttalsperre near Angenrod, founded in 1984 (NSG no. 162227).

history

Because the encounter and especially the Schwalm often led to strong floods , as was the case with the highest recorded Schwalm flood on December 5, 1960 (discharge of 157 m³ / s in Uttershausen ), which flooded large parts of the towns on both rivers, on December 6th The Schwalm water association was founded in 1962 and three flood retention basins were built. This also resulted in the Antrift Dam, which absorbs excess drift water as part of its flood protection area: The construction of the dam began in 1971 and ended, including the completion of the pre-dam, in 1984; According to other information, it was only built from 1976 to 1981. Commissioning took place after the completion of the trial construction in 1981.

The strongest flood since the dam was erected - triggered by continuous rain and snowmelt - occurred (as in the HRB Treysa-Ziegenhain and HRB Heidelbach further downstream ) on 24/25. January 1995, with the levels falling from February 2, 1995 and the dam of the dam proved its worth.

dam

The drift dam , which was designed as a debris dam , is around 550 m long, 18 m high above the valley floor and 130 m wide at the base. The crown height is 283  m above sea level. NN . The dam has a structure volume of around 400,000 m³ and its slope is 1: 2.1 to 1: 4 on the air side and 1: 2.5 to 1: 4 on the water side .

Approximately in the middle of the dam stands as robbery funnel a tulip-shaped cup raid of reinforced concrete with a crown diameter of 15 m. It has a normal inflow funnel and a flood relief overflow built over it. The water flows through an underground channel in the dam to the outlet structure and then on through the contact point to the Schwalm . Electricity is not generated.

The Seehotel Antrifttal is located directly southwest of the dam on the bank of the reservoir .

Reservoir

The Antrift reservoir has 3.2 million m³ total or flood protection space with a normal storage space of 3.16 million m³. The storage space is designed for a precipitation or catchment area of around 62 km² , which makes up almost 54% of the total catchment area of the drift. The target is at 277  m above sea level. NN and the highest storage target (a flood that occurs on average once every 1000 years) at 281  m above sea level. NN . The flooded area is around 31 ha for the storage target and 32 ha for the highest storage target.

In the event of a flood, part of the drift water is retained in the reservoir and later released into the lower reaches. In winter, with 2.1 million m³, a larger flood protection area is kept free than in summer with 1.6 million m³.

As a recreational area , located between forests and agricultural areas, the reservoir is popular with water sports enthusiasts and as a fish-rich body of water with anglers. Walkers and hikers head for the reservoir as an excursion destination.

Work on rivers and infrastructure

When the dam was built, the section of water in it, the Drift (Antreff), was designed as an underground canal. In addition, access roads to the dam and on and on it several walking, hiking and control paths were laid out. Around the reservoir there is an approximately 3.3 km long nature trail with insights into the flora and fauna. State road  3170 ( Angenrod - Seibelsdorf ) leads west past the reservoir in a south-north direction .
