Arkady Grigorievich Mordwinow (originally Mordwischew) ( Russian Аркадий Григорьевич Мордвинов (Мордвишев) ; born January 15 . Jul / 27. January  1896 greg. In Schurawlicha ; † 23. July 1964 in Moscow ) was a Soviet architect .

Life

Mordvinov, the son of an icon painter , spent his youth in the village of Varesch near Pavlovo . He studied civil engineering at the Moscow Technical University , graduating in 1930. His early work corresponded to constructivism , as his post office in Kharkov shows.

In 1929 Mordvinov founded the All-Russian Society of Proletarian Architects (WOPRA) with KS Halabjan and Alexander Vlasov , which opposed the avant-garde development of Soviet architecture and all other foreign architectural styles such as neo-baroque , eclecticism and neoclassicism . In particular, Mordvinov sharply criticized II Leonidov , calling his designs petty-bourgeois and accusing him of sabotage . He was also an opponent of the Moscow Zentrosojus building by Le Corbusier and ND Kolli . The Soviet state used the WOPRA group to bring the free architects of the ASNOWA group and the OSA group under its control, as the crackdown on independent engineers and technicians made clear - see Shakhty trial and Prompartija trial against LK Ramsin and others. In 1933 Mordvinov and Halabjan led a campaign against the modernist M. A. Ochitowitsch , who was arrested and shot in 1937.

In the early 1930s, Mordvinov worked as a deputy director in IA Fomin 's architectural project workshop No. 3 of the Moscow City Soviet . He was also a member of the cadre of permanent architectural advice of the Council for the Construction of the Palace of the Soviets at the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee . He was influenced by the Stenberg brothers , who worked as graphic designers for him and other architects. 1937–1941 Mordvinov initiated the series production of residential buildings on various streets in Moscow.

1943-1947 Mordvinow was chairman of the committee for architectural affairs at the Council of Ministers of the USSR , which was responsible for the reconstruction after the German-Soviet war . In particular, Mordvinov oversaw the first plans for the reconstruction of Minsk and Smolensk . 1950–1955 Mordvinov was President of the Academy of Architectural Sciences of the USSR . 1953–1957 Mordvinov built the Moscow Hotel Ukraina together with WK Oltarschewski and others .

Mordvinov's grave is in Moscow's Novodevichy Cemetery .
