Arnd Ludwig

Arnd "Lupo" Ludwig (born January 15, 1967 ) is a former German volleyball player and current coach.

Career

During his active time as a volleyball player, Ludwig played in the German Bundesliga for ten years (including at VBC Paderborn ) and was a member of the German youth and junior national team. He studied teaching at the University of Paderborn and worked after the end of his playing career from 1995 to 1999 as a math and sports teacher at a German school.

In 1998 he took over as coach of the women's volleyball team of SSV Ulm 1846 , which was playing in the 2nd Bundesliga at that time . In his first season, Ludwig was promoted to the Bundesliga with the club . In the next three years he played with SSV Ulm in this league. From 1999 he was also the assistant coach of Lee Hee-wan for the German women's national team . Surprisingly, this led to qualification for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney , where the team took sixth place, participation in the 2001 European Championship in Bulgaria and third place at the 2002 World Grand Prix . In 2002 Ludwig gave up both coaching posts and took over the post of head coach at Dresdner SC . With the Dresden club achieved third place in the championship standings in the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons. In 2007 he won the German championship and made it to the finals in the DVV Cup . In the 2007/08 season the team was runner-up and achieved third place in the 2007/08 European Challenge Cup .

In early 2009, the Dresdner SC announced the departure of Ludwig at the end of the 2008/09 season. Arnd Ludwig took over the Canadian women's volleyball team in May 2009 . His successor at the Dresden volleyball team was Alexander Waibl . Ludwig took part with the Canadian national team at the World Championships 2010 in Japan and 2014 in Italy , at the Pan American Games in 2011 in Guadalajara (Mexico) and 2015 in Toronto (Canada) and at the World Grand Prix in 2014 , 2015 and 2016 . In January 2017, the Volleyball Canada Association announced that Marcello Abbondanza will succeed Ludwig as head coach of the women's national team from May 2017.

Private

Ludwig is married to a Canadian and has two children.
