The Art Center Berlin Friedrichstrasse was a forum for art exhibitions in the center of Berlin from 2005 to 2010 . Across from the Friedrichstadt-Palast , at Friedrichstrasse 134, the privately financed institution had a total of more than 3000 m² of exhibition space on seven floors. This made it one of the big houses for exhibitions of contemporary art in Berlin. The exhibition concept of the Art Center Berlin was located in the spectrum from gallery to art gallery and also enabled exhibitions of a museum character. From painting , graphics , sculpture , installation , photography , video art , performance to interactive art, almost the entire spectrum of the visual arts was represented in the exhibitions . Founding managing director of Art Center Berlin Friedrichstrasse 134 GmbH was Thomas Tyllack . He organized the program of exhibitions and events.

Inauguration (2005)

On June 8, 2005, the former Berlin Senator Volker Hassemer opened the Art Center Berlin. In the first exhibition, entitled "Reflections", nine renowned Berlin galleries showed works by their artists. Curated by Rolf Külz-McKenzie were represented: DNA Die Neue Aktiongalerie, Galerie Brennecke, Galerie Deschler, Galerie Horst Dietrich, Henrike Höhn Galerie, Galerie Eva Poll , Galerie Seitz & Partner, Galerie Tammen & Busch, Galerie Rafael Vostell. They showed works by Elvira Bach , Jan Bünnig, Costantino Ciervo , Tony Conway, Tony Cragg , Bernd Damke , Uta Eckerlin, Menno Fahl , Albrecht Genin, Alex Groß, Lisa Huber, Wolfgang Höhn, Maxim Kantor , MK Kaehne, Clemens Krauss, Anna -Kavata Mbiti, Hans van Meeuwen, Volker März , Yoko Ono , Nam June Paik , Wolf Vostell , Iris Schieferstein, Isabel Rohner, Cameron Rudd, Franziska Rutz, Avelino Sala, Hans Scheib , Iris Schieferstein, Jo Schöpfer , Noe Sendas, Deborah Sengl , Mariana Vassileva, Patricia Waller, Johannes Weiß, Trak Wendisch, Daniel Winkler and Bernd Zimmer .

Exhibitions until 2010

Until it closed in 2010, the Art Center Berlin had more than 100 exhibitions. The focus of the exhibition activities was international contemporary art. In often very extensive solo and group exhibitions, a large number of artistic positions were presented to a wide audience.

In addition, numerous thematic exhibitions with a cultural and historical background were presented, which counted thousands of visitors, such as: " Leonardo da Vinci : Person, Inventor ..." (2005/06), "Experience Art!" (2006), "Uomini e marmo ... i colori del bianco - The marble of Carrara ”(2006),“ Graphic Portfolio Federico García Lorca ”(2006/7),“ Three aspects of the culture of Tunisia ”(2007),“ Dreamtime Australia ”(2007), “Culture Week Oman ” (2008), “Art from Pyongyang Korea ” (2008), “Art from Madagascar ” (2008), “Prize Winner of the Salón de Otoño de Pintura de Plasencia ” (2008) “Islands without Borders” - contemporary art of Balearic Islands (2009), “Pictures from the Forbidden City ” - oil painting by Jiang Guo Fang (2009/10). In September 2009, the exhibition “Metropolis Berlin” with works by the artist Johannes J. Dittloff linked two vibrant places in the city, Friedrichstrasse (Art Center Berlin) and Alexanderplatz (art place berlin).

The program of the Art Center Berlin was supplemented by various forms of events such as readings, performances and musical presentations. Special programs were also offered in connection with participation in the “ Long Night of Museums ”.
