Arthur Georg Freiherr Pino von Friedenthal (born January 10, 1843 in Stiebrowitz , Austrian Silesia , † October 29, 1930 in Teschen , Austrian Silesia) was an Austrian-Silesian major general .

Life

Arthur Georg Pino von Friedenthal was born on January 10, 1843 in the village of Stiebrowitz, which belongs to Austrian Silesia. At the age of 18 he was retired in 1861 with the rank of lieutenant from the genius academy in Znojmo to the kuk Silesian infantry regiment "Kaiser" No. 1 ( IR 1 for short ). In 1866 he took part in the campaign against Prussia . At IR 1 he was part of various crews, including in Venice , Badia , Teravisu , Meran , Rovigo , Noale , Vicenza , Prague and Opava . After studying at the kuk war school in Vienna from 1873 , Pino von Friedenthal became a captain in the general staff in 1875 and was then employed in the general staff . Here he belonged to the 8th Cavalry Brigade in Prague. As part of the General Staff, he joined the 29th Infantry Troop Division in Theresienstadt in 1877 . From 1879 he worked at the State Description Office in Vienna and was raised to the Austrian nobility the following year and from then on bore the name Pino von Friedenthal. From 1882 he headed the Italian group in the country description office of the General Staff; from this year also in the rank of major . From 1884 he taught military geography and cartography at the kuk war school. After he rose to lieutenant colonel in 1886 and from 1889 acted as commander of the 2nd battalion of the 11th infantry regiment in Innsbruck , he received the rank of colonel in the same year . In the following year, 1890, he was in command of the 1st Infantry Regiment in Opava and again a year later he led the Xth Army Corps in Przemyśl . In 1894 he was promoted to brigadier and in the same year to major general , in that year he was also commander of the 50th infantry brigade in Vienna. From 1896 Pino von Friedenthal commanded the war school and had a decisive influence on the training of the Austro-Hungarian General Staff officers. In 1898 he was promoted to field marshal or lieutenant general . Four years after he was appointed commander of the war school, he took over command of the 30th Infantry Troop Division in Lviv and two years later, from 1902, he was section head in the Austro-Hungarian War Ministry . After commanding the X Army Corps in Przemyśl from 1905, Pino von Friedenthal retired at his own request in 1910. Before that he took over the 40th infantry regiment in Rzeszów by means of a so-called imperial decree . As part of the Czechoslovak Army founded two years earlier , he was promoted to general in January 1920. He died on October 29, 1930 at the age of 87 in the city ​​of Teschen in Silesia in what is now Poland .
