history

church

In 1090 the place is mentioned for the first time as de Eskenenroderen in the Hersfeld Monastery register of properties . (A not precisely allocable entry called the year 1072.) From 1259 carried the Lords of Leimsfeld the Counts of Ziegenhain to replace the tithe to Rengershausen the allodial in Ascherode to feud on. In 1262 the Haina monastery received their goods in Ascherode from those of Goßfelden. Ascherode is mentioned as a village from 1306. In 1306, the Haina Monastery acquired half of their property from the Lords of Heimbach, and in 1308 the second half. In 1343, the Hersfeld monastery renounced the feudal rights in the place in favor of the Haina monastery. In 1349 the von Riedesel announced to the Counts of Ziegenhain that the tithes at Ascherode had been pledged by Ruprecht Baroch with their consent. In 1350 the Counts of Ziegenhain exchanged their farm for the Haina monastery. As early as 1365, part of the tenth Ziegenhain fiefdom belonged to those of Rückershausen and those of Linsingen . Count Gottfried VII von Ziegenhain acquired a house with a garden and a field in Ascherode before 1367. In 1384 the Haina monastery sold its Vorwerk to the Treysa citizen Henne Floyder for 60 marks.

The oldest district map dates from the year 1720. Today's houses in the town center come from a structural renovation in the 19th century.

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , on December 31, 1970, the two cities of Treysa and Ziegenhain merged with the surrounding villages of Ascherode, Florshain, Frankenhain, Niederbegrenzebach, Rommershausen and Trutzhain on a voluntary basis to form the expanded city of Schwalmstadt. This made Ascherode a district of Schwalmstadt. The administrative seat became Treysa. For all formerly independent municipalities, local districts with local advisory boards and local councilors were formed in accordance with the Hessian municipal code.

church

The village church, which has been used by the Protestant community since the Reformation, is a late-Gothic hall with a vaulted rectangular choir from the beginning of the 16th century; a late medieval sacrament niche belongs to this first building. The canopy ridge and the pulpit date from the 18th century. In 1896/97 the building, especially with new windows, and the furnishings were renewed by the Marburg architect Wilhelm Spahr , and the organ dated 1897 was also manufactured by Heinrich Möller.
