Rörshain is a district of the city of Schwalmstadt in the north Hessian Schwalm-Eder district .

Geographical location

Rörshain is located above the mouth of the Gers on state road 3074 and can be reached from the direction of Ziegenhain via federal road 254 .

There is a sand pit south of the village . One of the most important prehistoric sites in Hesse from the Ice Age and the Paleolithic was discovered in 1938 at the “Reutersruh”. Due to the abundant quartzite deposits here, there was an inexhaustible material depot for stone tools . Some of the exhibits found here are exhibited today in the Schwalm Museum in Ziegenhain .

history

In 1238, the Rörshain was first mentioned in a document as Reginharteshagen when it was transferred to the Haina monastery . Heinrich and Berta von Uttershausen reserve their fiefdoms in Rörshain for life . In 1260 the von Uttershausen Haina donated the tithe to Rörshain. Heinrich von Uttershausen confirmed in 1278 that the Haina monastery had legally bought its goods and waived it. In the 16th century there were two mills, three smaller and three larger farms .

In 1639, during the Thirty Years' War , there was still a " house sat " living in the village. In 1681 there were again seven house seats in Rörshain. A miller , a bricklayer , a linen weaver , two shepherds , a tailor and three day laborers lived in Rörshain in 1782.

The forest district of Frielendorf , which was dissolved in 1928/29 , was partially incorporated into Rörshain.

Around 1940 a military airfield was built northwest of the village . A quarry stone building with a half-timbered upper floor, the entrance building of the former airfield, is still preserved in the Wolfskaute today. On March 24, 1945 the airfield was bombed . The population and the village were also affected. The church, built in the 13th century, was destroyed in this attack.

On April 1, 1972, Rörshain became part of Schwalmstadt as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

The Zeigerichsmühle, built in 1799, has been in the Hessenpark open-air museum in Neu-Anspach in the Hochtaunus district since 1986 . Thanks to this implementation, the mill , which had since become very dilapidated , was preserved as a monument . Today the house is used as the Hessian watchmaking school.

Culture and sights

The current church was rebuilt between 1948 and 1951. The 13th century Romanesque church fell victim to a bombardment of the nearby former military airfield on March 24, 1945.
