Career

Club

Attila Góga, who belongs to the Hungarian-speaking Szekler minority in Romania , began his career as a hockey player at the CS Progym in his hometown, for which he competed in the Romanian ice hockey league until 2008 . With the establishment of the MOL league , in which Hungarian and Romanian clubs play, Góga switched to HC Csíkszereda . With the club from Miercurea Ciuc he immediately became Romanian champion and also won the new MOL league. After the club was dissolved after the season for financial reasons, the defender moved to ASC Corona Brașov . But after a year he moved back to Transylvania and switched to HSC Csíkszereda , the traditional club of the Szeklers. In his first year there, he and his team won the MOL League and the Romanian National Cup . The Romanian league was dominated by HSC Csíkszereda anyway. In 2014 he and his team won the cup competition for the second time . After this success he moved to CSM Dunărea Galați near the Moldovan border, with whom he became national champion in 2015 and 2016. In November 2017 he returned to the CS Progym in his hometown.

International

In contrast to other Szeklers who compete for Hungary , Góga plays internationally for his native Romania . He was already active in the junior division at world championships. He made his debut in the men's national team at the World Championships of Division II in 2001 and achieved promotion to Division I with his team at the Group B tournament held in Bucharest . His next World Cup appearance was four years later in Division I. , but could not prevent relegation with his team. Already at the 2006 World Cup , the Romanians managed to win the title in Division II, to which Góga contributed with three goals and seven assists, and thus the immediate resurgence. But the 2007 World Cup it was not enough for relegation in Division I and so Goga played at the World Championships for him and his team in 2008 , 2010 and 2011 in Division II. After the re-emergence was succeeded at the tournament in 2011, he joined in 2012 and 2013 with Romania in Division I of the World Cup. After relegation in 2014, in which he was not involved, he succeeded with his team at the 2015 World Cup in Division II, to which he made a significant contribution as the best defender of the tournament and most successful scorer among the defensive players.

He also played for Romania in the qualifying tournaments for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , 2014 in Sochi and 2018 in Pyeongchang .
