August Friedrich von der Droessel (born May 26, 1736 in Schäcksdorf ( Luckau district ); † January 13, 1803 in Kummerow ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the body cuirassier regiment .

Life

origin

His parents were Johann Friedrich von der Droessel († February 29, 1736) and his wife Sophie Elisabeth, née von Drahnsdorff. His father was the heir of Drahnsdorf and Schäcksdorf as well as the chief tax collector of Niederlausitz .

Military career

Droessel first entered the Saxon Army and in 1750 was a cadet in the "Brodowsky" dragoon regiment. In 1753 he switched to the Prussian Army and was employed as a private corporal in the "Württemberg" dragoon regiment . As an ensign , Droessel took part in the battles near Prague , Kolin , Leuthen , Zorndorf and Torgau during the Seven Years' War . For this purpose he was assigned to the hussar regiment "von Ziethen" on October 1, 1758 as a second lieutenant . On December 20, 1758 he was accepted into the regiment with a patent from October 2, 1758.

After the war he was on January 4, 1764, Prime Lieutenant , on May 6, 1768 staff assistant master and on June 17, 1775 Rittmeister and squadron chief . During the War of the Bavarian Succession , he distinguished himself in the battle near Braunau, where he captured an officer and 30 Croatians. On September 24, 1780 he became major , on June 9, 1789 lieutenant colonel and on May 20, 1791 colonel . Then on July 29, 1792 he was appointed commander of the II Battalion. In the First Coalition War Droessel took part in the cannonade of Valmy , and on November 6, 1792 he became the commander of the cuirassier regiment "von Dolffs" . On November 24, 1792 he received the order Pour le Mérite . On March 5, 1797 he was appointed chief of the body cuirassier regiment and sent to the observation army in Westphalia. On May 24, 1798 he became major general, but on June 16, 1799 he received his resignation with a pension of 1000 thalers.

He was buried under a large monument in the Besskow cemetery.

family

Droessel married Marie Josephine von Holtoff (* 1741; † March 15, 1788) in 1760. After her death, on October 25, 1789, he married Susanne Juliane von Beville (* 1769), the daughter of General Gottlieb Ludwig von Beville .
