August Procopius

August Prokop (born August 15, 1838 in Iglau ; † August 18, 1915 in Bozen ) was an Austrian architect who worked in Brno and Vienna .

Life

August Prokop was the son of the Higher Regional Court Secretary Franz Prokop and his wife Anna geb. Mayer. In 1868 he married Adolfine geb. Lamprecht (1844-1906). The early deceased son Zdenko Friedrich (1870–1872) emerged from this marriage.

After high school in Iglau, Olmütz and Brno, Prokop studied from 1858 to 1861 at the Imperial and Royal Polytechnic Institute and from 1861 to 1867 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna , where his teachers were Friedrich von Schmidt , August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll .

After completing his studies, August Prokop became a civil architect in 1867 and from 1869 to 1872 chief engineer at the Vienna construction company . In 1874 he worked for the Anton Ölzelt construction company. From 1878 he was professor of architectural history at the Technical University of Brno , where he was rector in 1882/83. From 1882 to 1892 August Prokop was director of the Moravian Museum of Commerce (later the Archduke Rainer Museum of Arts and Crafts) in Brno . In 1892 he became a full professor for structural engineering, art and building history at the Vienna University of Technology as the successor to Josef Stummer von Traunfels (1808-1891). There he officiated as rector in 1896/97 .
