August Adolf Georg von Forell (born December 5, 1813 in Strünkede , † July 2, 1891 in Sankt Ulrich ) was a Prussian major general and inspector of the 5th fortress inspection.

Life

August wra a son of the Oberlandessyndikus and Herr auf Strünkede Friedrich von Forell (1777–1846) and his wife Karoline, née Baroness von Paland-Osterveen (1780–1853). His brother Friedrich (1811–1872) was a Prussian district administrator .

Military career

Forell attended grammar school in Bochum and joined the 8th Pioneer Department of the Prussian Army as a pioneer on December 2, 1831 . For training, he graduated from the United Artillery and Engineering School from October 1, 1832 to September 30, 1835 , advanced to Second Lieutenant on October 2, 1834 and was aggregated to the 3rd Engineer Inspection . On March 24, 1838, he was assigned to the 3rd engineer inspection with a patent from October 12, 1834. On October 5, 1838 he was appointed adjutant of the 4th pioneer department and in the same capacity he was active in the 3rd pioneer inspection from mid-September 1840. At the end of November 1841, Forell was ordered to fortify in Koblenz , returned to his main division on October 1, 1845, and was promoted to prime lieutenant at the end of March 1847 . Forell came to Minden for fortification on May 1, 1848 and then to Jülich on November 1, 1849 . As a captain , he was employed in fortification in Wesel and Mainz . On November 1, 1856 he came from the square to Wittenberg as an engineer officer , rose to major at the beginning of November 1859 and was transferred from the square to Danzig on September 5, 1861 as an engineer officer. Promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 25, 1864 , he was inspector of the 5th fortress inspection from January 30, 1866.

During the mobilization on the occasion of the German War , Forell came to the Elbarmee as first engineer officer on May 18, 1866 and took part in the battles at Hühnerwasser , Münchengrätz and Königgrätz . For his work he received the Crown Order III on September 20, 1866 . Class with swords and was promoted to colonel on December 31, 1866 with a patent dated October 30, 1866 . On the occasion of the festival of the Order, Troell was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III in January 1870 . Class with a bow and on August 18, 1871 he was awarded the character of Major General. Shortly thereafter, he was on 21 September 1871 Pension for disposition made him and on 12 July 1881 his farewell granted by the previous pension. He died on July 2, 1891.

The Lieutenant General von Borke wrote in his assessment in 1865: “The Lieutenant Colonel von Forell is a well-informed, circumspect and dutiful officer, who dedicates himself with praiseworthy zeal to his extensive sphere of activity and devotes himself to the highest and represents the highest interest with energy and expertise. Forell married Elvire Reussner (1839-1870) on September 4, 1860 in Magdeburg and after her death Josephine Nestler (* 1833). Both marriages remained childless.
