history

The Aurora 2012 in Tallinn

The ship was built at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg under construction number 640. The keel was laid on December 15, 1998. On January 18, 2000, the ship left the building dock. The Ems transfer took place on February 19, 2000. The delivery to P&O Cruises took place on April 15, 2000 in Southampton . On April 27, the ship was christened in Southampton by Princess Anne and put into service in Southampton on May 2, 2000. The ship sailed under the British flag with home port London .

In 2014, the ship was converted for 33 million euros at Blohm + Voss in Hamburg . Scrubbers were also installed and the ship received a new hull painting.

On the night of September 20-21, 2017, a fire broke out in the engine room near the Azores .

The ship has been registered in Bermuda since December 2007 , home port is Hamilton .

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by diesel-electric technology . The propulsion is provided by two STN / AEG electric motors, each with 20,000  kW power . The motors act on two fixed propellers . The ship reaches a speed of around 24  knots . It is equipped with two transverse thruster systems in the bow and one in the stern.

Electricity is generated by four MAN B & W - diesel engines (type 14V48 / 60) kW each with 14,700 capacity, the four ABB drive generators.

The Aurora has 14 decks , ten of which belong to the passenger area. There are 284 inside and 652 outside cabins, and the outside cabins also have 406 cabins with their own balcony.

The ship has all the facilities that are expected on board a modern cruise ship, including restaurants, bars, bistros, cinema, theater, shops, a library, casino, night club and discotheque, sports rooms and swimming pools, sauna and wellness offers.
